The Return of Saturn: Soul Lessons and Rite of Passage

In astrology, there are few transits that are transformative and life-defining as the Saturn Return or Return of Saturn. Often called a cosmic “coming of age,” this celestial event marks powerful milestones of spiritual growth, accountability, and self-mastery. Though it can bring about deep change and personal upheaval, your Saturn Return is not a punishment—it is a sacred rite of passage.

What Is a Saturn Return?
​A Saturn Return occurs when Saturn comes back to the same point in the zodiac as it was at the moment of your birth. This happens roughly every 29.5 years, marking major turning points in life: the first, second, and even third returns guide you into new phases of responsibility, wisdom, and personal evolution. Through many client sessions and my own personal experience and return, I believe this transition begins at the age of 26.5 years, where the ideas and soul energy begins to emerge to the surface with the final development of the Heart Chakra and the development of the Higher Heart Chakra.

When Does a Saturn Return Happen?

• 1st Return (Ages 28–30, beginning 26.5yrs):
  A period of shedding youthful illusions and stepping into your adult self. Careers, relationships, and identities may shift as you align with your soul’s purpose.
• 2nd Return (Ages 58–60, beginning 52yrs):
  A time of reevaluation. You reflect on life lived, legacy, and deeper wisdom. Often a call to embrace your spiritual path and live more authentically.
• 3rd Return (Around age 88–90, beginning 83yrs):
  A sacred time of completion and spiritual review, where the soul prepares to transition or re-anchor into a life of quiet purpose and peace.

My first Return of Saturn brought a change in career, confrontations in relationships and the passing of a close family member. Personally, I group the issues of the Return of Saturn into the following; big events such as birth, death, marriage, divorce, major illness, and radical career change, education, major travel or relocating living arrangements. When the first return arrives, it brings our biggest soul lessons to the surface.

Why Is It So Intense?

While I am yet to enter my second return, I encourage those that approach this age to look at the events that happened during their first Saturn Return. What were the events that came up for you?
